I love chickens but in a detached way. A chicken has no capacity to show emotion. A dog does. A chicken won’t show any intention to protect you or your shared turf. A dog will. A chicken produces eggs. A dog doesn’t. When the chicken stops producing eggs......I’ll stop there to not scare the children. ;-)
