Roger Mitchell, my friend and fellow substacker, invited CJ Hopkins and his photographer, Hugo Fernandez, to his country home just south of Missoula, Montana, for a stop on CJ’s whirlwind USA tour, The America Road Trip Project. CJ agreed and the duo came in cruising in a convertible Mustang on a warm, sunny, late-September day and we all enjoyed conversation and fried chicken out on the lawn. Before the BBQ, Hopkins sat down with me for over an hour to talk about the trip, Germany, and the zeitgeist of the nation.
